I am an Academy Research Fellow and Docent (Associate Professor) in Political Science at the University of Helsinki, currently on leave from my position as University Lecturer in World Politics. My research examines how corporate power, international finance, and digital technologies shape policymaking across borders. It spans sovereign debt and the governance of the IMF and World Bank, tax havens and illicit financial flows, corporate lobbying and consultancies, and, most recently, Big Tech’s influence on EU digital regulation.
Before returning to academia, I worked as a journalist and as an advocacy officer at Kepa, then Finland’s umbrella organisation for global development civil society, with responsibility for sovereign debt, tax justice, and international financial institutions. I later chaired Finnwatch from 2021 to 2025 and served on Finland’s Parliamentary Development Policy Committee.
I hold a PhD in World Politics from the University of Helsinki, completed in 2018. I was a Fulbright-Schuman grantee at Yale University, where I remain a Non-Resident Fellow, and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Widening Fellow at Tallinn University of Technology from 2020 to 2022.
